You will find different varieties of palms and there are several methods of caring for them. Annual maintenance is broadly to maintain the quality of your plants, but there might be some odd circumstances that may result in various problems such as lightning, root rot, high winds etc. In this article we will talk about general maintenance.

If you are dealing with tall palms which require climbing, then it is better not to use any tool or equipment that will wound or puncture the palms, such as tree climbing spurs. These might also make an opening, and insects can come in and cause various diseases and possible destruction of the tree. Instead you should use the following techniques. A framed ladder, pole saw, hydraulic lift, long handled clippers and loppers etc. are some of the most common equipments that you should have with you before you go for pruning.

Firstly, you should know about the best time to trim your trees, especially if you are living in hot or desert areas. If only the dead leaves and branches are left alone and with high winds and incoming storms, then your property or your neighbor’s property might get damaged. Also, it is very important to mention it is very crucial as well as important for the health of the tree to trim back the dead branches and leaves. Pruning is best when your tree has yellow, brown or broken leaves or fonds. This is why people like to do it in late spring season. You should also remove any kind of boots, flower, fruit stalks or petioles, by hand if you can in order to not damage the trunk of the tree. For example the fruits of a date palm can be both fertile as well as infertile, bearing the seeds that make an unpleasant mess.
